Full Rules for Ruin, Butcher's Character Warjack

The (early digital) release of the most recent No Quarter (#59) gave the world it's first look at the rules for Ruin, the newest Khador character warjack. Join me after the break for a quick rundown of Ruin's journey from concept art to reality, the spoiled rules for the model, and my thoughts about it.

Ruin has been hotly anticipated ever since it's concept was initially spoiled oh so many months ago. The first time anyone saw Ruin was when it's artwork was revealed as part of an end-of-league-season spoiler reward:

Anticipation for Ruin continued to grow as more images of the model surfaced...

...early spoilers started to creep out, and finally the actual model was revealed:

After so much anticipation, Ruin's actual rules needed to be pretty excellent to stand up to the hype.

Do they suffice? Lets take a look:

Ruin

MAT: 8
RAT:  3
DEF:  10
ARM: 20

Affinity [Zoktavir] - While Ruin is in Butcher's control area, Ruin gains Boundless Charge. (During it's activation, this model can charge without spending focus and gains +2" movement and Pathfinder when it charges).

Soul Taker - This model gains one soul token when a living enemy model is destroyed within 2" of it. This model can have up to three soul tokens at a time. During its activation, this model can spend soul tokens to gain additional attacks or to boost attack or damage rolls at one token per attack or boost.

Orgoth Seal - When a model targets this model with an offensive spell, the spell suffers -3 RNG. If a model directly hits this model with an offensive spell, after the attack is resolved the attacking model suffers d6 damage points.

Special Issue [Zoktavir] - This model can be included in Zoktavir's theme forces. It can also be bonded to Zoktavir.

  1. I think his rules not only stand up to the hype, they even exceed it, especially at that price tag.

    1. Fully agreed. Ruin's rules are fantastic, but the PC is what locks it in as being beyond expectations. Everyone was pegging Ruin at 11 or 12 points; getting all of this for 10 is wonderfully crazy.

    2. Ruin would've been wonderful at 11 or 12, him being 10 is an insult to all the other Jacks that are 10 points.

    3. I think it's more PP's designers silently admitting that most of the early Mk. 2 warjack pricing was pretty high across all the factions (the ones that escaped it are the warjacks that you see, or the characters that can power through it).

For as crazy-good as he is, Ruin is about 10 points worth of pure melee, "still need to deliver me alive" warjack. I'd actually argue that all the other 10 point warjacks are overcosted. :)

Especially poor Torch. That comparison is laughable.
